Artist, cultural thinker, John Jay professor of environmental justice, Mary Ting will give a historical, cultural visual presentation on the Chinese market for endangered species products. From elephant ivory to helmeted hornbill, rhino horn, tiger and lion bone, to abalone and rosewood - the list of desired luxury items is long and growing as species dwindle and “new traditional” products appear. In order to get behind the how-and-why this came to be, it is necessary to look at the history to find a path forward.
